Plain English

Plain English uses simple words and short sentences – perfect if you want to reach a wide and diverse audience.

  • Plain English – also known as plain language – is designed for busy readers with little time. This writing style helps anyone to understand your content fast.

    Plain English may still include some hard words. It assumes that your reader has at least a reading ability around early high school (Year 7 or 8).

  • We can translate any document into plain English – no matter how complex.

Easy Read

Easy Read is designed for people who struggle to read. It uses images and very simple text to get a message across.

  • Easy Read uses easy words, very short sentences and lots of illustrations. It will benefit:

    • people with learning disability

    • migrants

    • older people

    • children

    • anyone else with difficulty reading long text in English.

    Easy Read is ideal for people with a primary-school reading ability.

  • We can translate any document into Easy Read, creating a short summary of your original that focuses on the most important messages.

    Easy Read is not a word-for-word translation. Rather, it’s a high-level companion document to include and empower people with very low literacy.

  • At Plain Content, we use custom accessible illustrations that we have co-designed and tested with a range of people with reading difficulty, including:

    • people with intellectual disability

    • First Nations Australians

    • Australians with dyslexia

    • refugees who are still learning English.
